| All CYAC coaches have current safety credentials and professional coaching certifications through the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA). In addition, all prospective coaches undergo extensive background clearances and reference checks as part of the YMCA's pre-employment process. Our coaches are enthusiastic about swimming, enjoy working with swimmers of all ages and strive to be good role models of physical fitness and positive character values. |

Head Coach - Don Remaly, MD
"Doc" brings 20 years of coaching experience and an attentive, personalized approach to coaching children of all abilities from ages 6 to 18. In fact, he was the National YMCA Coach of the Year in 1997, and a nominated finalist for 3 other years. He is certified by the American Swim Coaches Association (ASCA) as Level 5 coach, the highest professional level recognized. He has coached NCAA (Div. 1) champions, over a dozen YMCA National champions and also serves as an assistant coach for the University of Virginia mens' and women's swim teams. His professional interest in sports medicine and human physiology adds a dimension of knowledge and expertise that is unparalleled in our region. |

Jen Phillips is welcomed back to CYAC for her 4th year as an assistant coach. Jen is certified as Level 2 coach by ASCA (American Swim Coaches Association) and is pursuing her doctorate in biochemistry/molecular genetics at UVa after graduating in 2000 with a B.S. degree in biology from Loyola University in Maryland. She was a competitive swimmer for 12 years including three years at the Bloomsburg Area YMCA (BAY)where she was a YMCA Nationals competitor. |

Erin Yarde returns for her 4th year as a CYAC assistant coach. She is a transplant from California and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley in 2001. While at Berkeley, Erin earned her B.A. in biology and rowed crew. She currently is pursuing a PhD in immunology at UVA. Erin brings 16 years of experience as a competitive swimmer and has also coached swimmers from age group to masters levels. Erin is certified as an ASCA Level 2 coach. |

Jenny Steiner graduated from the University of Virginia in May, 2007 with a degree in Exercise Physiology through the Curry School of Education. She is currently working towards her masters degree in exercise physiology at UVA. Jenny was a 4-year member of the UVA swim team and was a 10-year age group swimmer while growing up in New Jersey. She was an NCAA Division ! qualifer in both the 100 and 200 breaststroke events and also competed in the 200 IM and backstroke events for the Cavaliers. Jenny has experience teaching swim lessons for the past 7 years and is currently teaching a swimming class at UVA.

Luke Wagner earned a BS from University of Virginia in 2004 and is currently a a degree candidate for an MA in Religious Studies at UVA. While at UVA, he was a member of 4 ACC Championships teams; a 10-time ACC champion; a Divsion 1 All-American and Academic All-American all four years. He was a member of several U.S. national teams and a finalist at the 2004 Olympic Trials in the 200 backstroke. Luke is the UVa record holder in the 100 and 200 backstrokes and the ACC record holder in the 200 backstroke.
Mike Brown has 15 years of aquatics experience and 10 years of swim coaching experience, including 3 years as a head coach. He was previously the Aquatics Director at the Kirk Family YMCA in Roanoke and started a new, successful team at the YMCA of Roanoke Valley. Mike holds a variety of aquatics certifications and is currently pursuing his level 2 ASCA certification.
Alissa Rubin graduated from UVA in May 2007 with a B.A. in Sociology and M.T. in Special Education. She was on the Women's Rowing team at UVA and before college, Alissa was a competitive swimmer for over 10 years on club, high school, and summer teams. She has been a JSL swim coach the past three summers and previously coached in northern VA. Alissa is a 5th grade special education teacher at Walker Upper Elementary. |

Shelley Remaly is a certified Level 3 Coach with 20 years of swim coaching experience. She serves the YMCA of the USA as an instructor for YMCA Swim Coaching, Priniciples of YMCA Swimming and Diving and Level 1 and 2 Swim Officials courses. Shelley is on staff at the YMCA as the Development Director.
